{"id":5223,"date":"2021-05-10T13:52:26","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T11:52:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/christophelaveaux.fr\/cosmetic-surgery\/face-and-neck-surgery\/chirurgie-du-menton\/"},"modified":"2022-06-16T16:10:39","modified_gmt":"2022-06-16T14:10:39","slug":"chin-surgery","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/christophelaveaux.fr\/en\/cosmetic-surgery\/face-and-neck-surgery\/chin-surgery\/","title":{"rendered":"Chin surgery"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Aesthetic Chin Surgery<\/h1>\n<div>\u2022 Genioplasty \u2022 Chin Implants \u2022 Fat injections \u2022<\/div>\n<h2>Aesthetic chin surgery &#8211; Genioplasty<\/h2>\n<div>\n<p><em><strong>Cosmetic chin surgery (Genioplasty or mentoplasty) aims to improve the appearance of the chin and therefore the overall symmetry of the profile. <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>A chin can be unattractive when it:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>protrudes too much (clog chin) ;<\/li>\n<li>is recessed (nonexistent ) ; <\/li>\n<li>is too large ; <\/li>\n<li>is too small ;<\/li>\n<li>is poorly defined.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These chin defects can cause abnormalities in the gums and lower teeth and also with the lips, which can sometimes make it difficult to close the month completely.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3>Guidelines for surgical genioplasty<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p>An incision is made in the mouth at the lower gum. <br \/>Depending on the type of abnormity the surgeon will perform a:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>filing down of the bone<\/li>\n<li>or insertion of a silicone implant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A chin augmentation can also be achieved by fat injections made through tiny incisions.<\/p>\n<p>The procedure is performed either under general anaesthesia or under assisted local anaesthesia (local anaesthesia with sedation) as an outpatient and lasts from 45 minutes to an hour.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Associated procedures<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p>Additional corrective procedures may also be suggested to restore the profile and dental bite (profiloplasty) :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"\/en\/cosmetic-surgery\/face-and-neck-surgery\/cosmetic-nose-sugery\/#rhinoplastie\">rhinoplasty<\/a> to remove a bump ;<\/li>\n<li>jaw surgery (maxillary and mandibular osteotomies) ;<\/li>\n<li>orthodontic treatment to correct malocclusions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Postoperative cares<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p>The pain is relieved by analgesics. <\/p>\n<p>Swelling and bruising to the lips and cheeks disappear in 1 to 2 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Some precautions must be taken to avoid scarring problems:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>eating warm or cold soft food for 8 days ;<\/li>\n<li>avoiding spicy, hot and acidic foods (orange juice, lemon, \u2026) ;<\/li>\n<li>maintaining good oral hygiene (brushing, mouthwash) ;<\/li>\n<li>completely banning tobacco and alcohol until complete healing (about 2 weeks).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Risk of complications<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p>As with any surgery, a number of complications can occur.
